lyrics

Long ago
when we were young
and I was home

I recall
a bear on my bed
kept me safe or did his best

Once when I
was broken and beaten
I held him close and felt my cares run away

In a time
so simple
we never noticed that well dried up

and I quit my day job
selling toys outside the mall

and followed
my dream of overthinking you

and I spilled out my heart
to any stranger
who would give me a second
or a pocket of change

I would stand on the corner
whore my thoughts to anybody
who thought that they were worth
any more than just their money

It feels like I'm
losing myself
To the weight of time

after all these nights
spent sifting the rubble
can I really say I made it mine?

I sit here now
writing away all my wounds

as if I had learned
the pen was a leech, and I the physician

I tried
to pocket every moment
and keep it in this old busted watch

But I guess I knew
that life would never be so kind
